Shake off Winter. Time for Spring Maintenance

Spring Maintenance: Get Your Vehicle Ready After a Tough Winter

Winter takes a toll on your vehicle. The freezing temperatures, road salt, and icy conditions can leave your vehicles in need of some serious care. As spring arrives, it’s time to shake off the effects of winter and get ready for the warm weather. A little maintenance now can help keep you moving. Because breakdowns never happen at a good time.

At STARFIRE, we know how much you rely on your vehicle, and we’re here to help with high-quality lubricants, antifreeze, and maintenance products designed to keep your engines running strong—in all the critical places—no matter the season. Here’s a guide to help prepare for spring after a tough winter.

1. Change Your Oil and Check Fluids

Cold winter weather can thicken motor oil and cause excessive wear inside your engine. That’s why it’s important to start the season with fresh oil. STARFIRE Full Synthetic Motor Oils provide excellent protection against wear, and ensures your critical engine parts stay lubricated and efficient, even in fluctuating spring temperatures.

While you’re at it, don’t forget to check other essential fluids:

Brake Fluid: Moisture buildup in the brake system can affect performance. If it looks dirty or discolored, a change might be needed.

Grease: Make sure joints and bearings are properly greased to avoid costly repairs.

Transmission Fluid: Proper fluid levels and condition help ensure smooth shifting and performance. STARFIRE has Transmission fluids for every application from Cars and trucks to 50W Heavyweight Transmission Oil.

2. Inspect Your Cooling System

Your cooling system plays a vital role in preventing engine overheating—something that can quickly become a problem as the weather warms up. Check for leaks, worn hoses, or corrosion in the radiator. If your coolant levels are low, top them off with STARFIRE Antifreeze/Coolants. After working hard all winter to prevent freezing, your cooling system still needs protection from overheating as temperatures rise. From Universal All Makes All Models Yellow to PureFleet Extreme Heavy-Duty STARFIRE has you covered for virtually every application—to provide long-lasting corrosion resistance and temperature stability to keep your engine safe.

3. Check Your Battery

Cold weather can drain your battery’s strength. If your car was slow to start during the winter, now is the perfect time to test your battery’s voltage. Clean off any corrosion from the terminals and ensure a secure connection. If your battery is more than three years old, consider getting it tested or replaced to avoid being stranded.

4. Inspect Your Tires

Winter roads are rough on tires. Potholes, ice, and fluctuating temperatures can lead to wear and tear. As spring approaches:

Check Tire Pressure: Cold weather causes tires to lose pressure, so make sure they’re properly inflated for optimal fuel efficiency and safety.

Check Tread Depth: Worn-out tires reduce traction, especially on rainy spring roads. Use the penny test—if you can see the top of Lincoln’s head when inserting a penny into the tread, it’s time for new tires.

Rotate or Replace if Necessary: Uneven wear patterns can shorten tire life. Rotating your tires helps extend their lifespan and improve performance.

5. Replace Wiper Blades & Top Off Washer Fluid

Winter snow, ice, and salt take a toll on wiper blades. If they’re streaking or skipping across your windshield, replace them to ensure clear visibility in spring rains.

Also, make sure your windshield washer fluid reservoir is full. A high-quality washer fluid helps remove dirt and pollen, keeping your view crystal clear.

6. Give Your Car a Thorough Cleaning

Winter road salt and grime can cause rust and corrosion if left unchecked. Give your car a deep clean inside and out:

Clean top to bottom: A good wash on the surface with a protective wax— AND a good cleaning underneath helps reduce the damaging effects of salt.

Vacuum & Disinfect: Clean the interior to remove salt stains, dust, and allergens that have accumulated over the winter.
